Cathy has been practicing yoga officially for about 20 years, but began her interest in breathing, focus, and meditation while working with high risk prenatal patients. As each of her children were born, she applied techniques of relaxation, breathing, focus, and meditation to those life-changing experiences.
Over the years, Cathy has studied with several local teachers including Noelle Dijoud, Jeff Tiebout, Anna Pittman, Eileen Patzig, Shannon Cummings, and Emily Glasson. She received her 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training certification with Nicole Fitzwater Boyle at In Balance Yoga in 2016 and completed restorative yoga training in 2017 with Colleen Dwyer. Cathy is pursuing advanced certification training with Anna Pittman at The Breathing Space, Blacksburg, VA.
Cathy has diverse yoga interests including Ashtanga, slow flow, gentle, Yin, hot yoga, restorative, and prenatal. She practices and teaches thoughtful alignment and self-awareness. Cathy enjoys supporting students as they discover their own yogic path. She believes each practitioner contributes his or her own wisdom to the class – we learn from each other.
Cathy’s background is in medical social work and in foster care casework. She later started teaching in the English Department at Virginia Tech. Her extra pursuits include photography, reading and writing, gardening, and travel. She and her husband Mike grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia, but became Fast-Hokies, pursuing their degrees in Virginia, and raising three children in Blacksburg. They live on twenty-two acres of paradise on Brush Mountain.
